How the experience works
- The app serves as the portal- it is all you need.
- When you start the app, you are asked to aim the camera at the floor so the content can anchor, and then a dynamic mixed reality lobby appears in your space. With touch screen buttons, it offers multiple versions/modes to choose from.
- It currently includes an intro experience, easter eggs in the form of Image Detection target (look at the 3D printed QR code you scanned with the app), secret passages, and the first scenes of an immersive theatrical experience, called The Monster at the End of This Play.
- The experience is ongoing and expanding—new content, assets, and sections are added regularly, building toward the complete play. This format makes it deeply personal and location-agnostic: digital theatre overlays your real space, encouraging reflection on the themes in your own context. It's produced by Public Variable Theatre (a Houston-based company focused on original XR-immersive works) as a homemade, innovative response to making theatre accessible and presence-filled, even remotely.
